Molecular Networks of Dopaminergic Neurons in Chordates
This research involves an in-depth study of dopaminergic neurons which are implicated in Parkinson's Disease (PD).
In order to investigate how these neurons function at a molecular level and to build an insight into the complex molecular networks involved, a complement of cutting edge technologies will be used. Through the experience of the partners involved, including technologies such as microarrays, next-generation sequencing and high throughput imaging, this project will generate vast amounts of data on a very specific cell type at the heart of the disease.
Therefore, DOPAMINET will provide a powerful platform for future translational studies involving these neurons. In turn, this will promote better health, quality of life of elderly, cognitively impaired patients and help to reduce the high health care costs related to treatment and care (currently, approximately €55 billion per year).
